Vacant Teams In Real Time Leagues

RT leagues should be cut down to 20 teams. Have a reallocation draft for the players on those teams.

In my opinion the problem is there just aren't enough good players to go araound. Sure this is realistic to

real baseball, it is no fun to have 3 or 4 guys in your lineup hitting .195 or under. In traditional leagues, managers can

plan to have enough at bats or innings pitched when they draft. If your team gets a lot of injuries, you end up

playing with guys who no one wanted in the FA draft.  I don't see why some RT leagues have 11 vacant teams.

When I was here 10 years ago, I joined K17 and I did not like the 24 game format either. I ended up giving that team up.  Since I rejoined this year, I was totally surprised by the amount of managerless teams in the real time leagues. I think that cutting the teams to 20 might help. It is worth a try.I might join a real time league if it were a 20 team league.

Re: Vacant Teams In Real Time Leagues

I disagree most strongly.  While the number of vacant teams is a problem, further reducing the number of teams in RT would generate near All-Star teams in those leagues.

For me, a big part of the fun of RT leagues is finding guys in the monthly draft who can provide a significant boost to your team.  It would be a serious dilution of the realism of the game--and would reduce the interest in monthly drafts--if the RT leagues were dropped to 20 teams.  In fact, I'd like to see the number of teams in RT leagues increased at some point.

I have to agree.  The appeal of RT over TRAD to me is having to look for the lower tier player to help your team.  Fewer teams take that away and make RT more like TRAD.

I think Mike is doing a great job responding to UNM trades and keeping those teams competetive.  It would be great to have more teams managed, but not by eliminating teams to bring up the percentage.

Dave and Ken..your points are well taken. But then why are most of the Traditional leagues filled and the Real Time are not? What is keeping managers from taking RT teams?  There are about 240 RT teams with over 70 vacant. That's about 30%.  I agree with Casey's post.

I agree with Dave, the fun of Rt is managing and drafting to fill the holes. Along with trading when people respond. I have no idea why

there are so many vancancies, but again I do like the challenge. Dropping it to twenty teams would be a step backwards in realism.

No...No...NO...keep the 24 team leagues!!! These leagues are much more interesting than 20 team (super team) leagues. I would not be in favor at all in reducing 24 team leagues to 20 team ones.

Re: Vacant Teams In Real Time Leagues

I'm not saying change all the RT leagues. I would like to see a couple of the leagues that have over 10 vacant teams change to 20 league teams as an experiment to see if the league fills up in a year of two. Then whoever likes 24 team leagues plays in those leagues. those managers like me, who do like 20 team leagues can play in those.

Re: Vacant Teams In Real Time Leagues

I have teams in every Trad league except for 2 and my friend Sean has teams in those 2. I like 24 team trad leagues and like 24 team RT leagues.  The reason I prefer Trad is I think it's easier to rebuild a struggling team.  I think keping RT at 24 is good.  The problem is there aren't a lot of managers now.  I hope Jim's post about helping Mike works.  I'd love to see a lot more managers. I also agree with an earlier post Mike does a terrific job with mangerless teams.  Joey

Re: Vacant Teams In Real Time Leagues

Good points, Holybull. Definately keep RT at 24 teams. The RT leagues approximate real baseball more so than any 20 league teams. I actually prefer RT over Trad for that reason. In RT, you have to pay much closer attention to the weekly events in baseball and need to participate in the monthly drafts to be successful.
