Fortunately, I haven't run into the situation very often where the robot has to pick the visiting SP, due to no Ready starters, but until today I have followed the step-by-step process listed in the game manual and have gotten the choice correctly. Here's what happened in the middle of a series. The visitor had no Ready starter and no one with 10 or more BFA. There were a couple of pitchers designated by PB as Short Relievers and both had a BFA of 7. Therefore, I selected my lineup based upon the one with the much higher PB Grade, a LHP. Unfortunately, the other one was chosen by IRobot, a RHP. Since I mounted a real threat in the first inning, I burned 3 pinch hitters in that inning and only scored one run. The only explanation I can come up with that the robot does not look at the PB designation of type of reliever, but how the visiting manager has assigned the usage for that series, since both pitchers also had Max Bat ratings of 7, as well. The pitcher selected had a significantly higher ERA than all other relievers and would be a logical choice as long reliever, if you didn't care about designating someone with such a low Max Bat rating. I bring this up as a precaution to other managers. Knowing this may not help in that you may not have any idea who he has designated as a long guy in such occasions. Oh well, we won the game anyway.
